Art of Change

I used to think that top environmental problems were biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and climate change. I thought that thirty years of good science could address these problems. I was wrong. The top environmental problems are selfishness, greed and apathy, and to deal with these we need a cultural and spiritual transformation. And we scientists don’t know how to do that.

(Gus Speth, quoted from CACOR)

Changing people and changing society is both an art and a science. While there is much research about social problems, the implementation of solutions to those problems depend very much on humans, and with that, on public narratives, political viability and our ability to cooperate. Consider the example of climate change: While there is a world wide understanding of it as a key problem, it is very hard for the more than 200 countries to agree on a joint course forward; difficult for individuals to change their lifestyle and a challenge for organizations to adapt their core business.

This is why I combine my analytical work with a passion for communicating scientific findings (Art of Communication), and with building strong partnerships for change between different sectors and people (Art of Cooperation).

Art of Cooperation

Art of Cooperation is a project that fosters impact partnerships. We research, develop and implement methods for successful cooperation for social change. We work with nonprofit and business leaders, social entrepreneurs, public managers as well as private citizens. In July 2018, we organized our first large conference Social Impact Camp Austria.

Art of Communication

Communication is ubiquitous – maybe more so than ever before in history, we are subjected to a constant stream of information. As a consequence I am very interested in ways to minimize the information load without compromising the complexity of the subject at hand. There are many people who work on beautiful ways to communicate complex matters. See a few eye-opening examples.
